This morning I attended the 31st Annual Firefighter Memorial & Medal of Honor Awards Ceremony with several of my colleagues as we paid our respects to the brave firefighters who have given their lives in the line of duty. May their sacrifices never be forgotten.
Congratulations to Firefighter/Paramedic William Perry from the Coal City Fire Protection District for being a recipient of a Medal of Honor Award today.
The Medal of Honor Award is the highest award given by the State of Illinois to a firefighter for an act of outstanding bravery or heroism, by which the firefighter has demonstrated in great degree the characteristics of selflessness and personal courage above and beyond the call of duty, under adverse conditions, with the possibility of extreme personal risk.
Thank you to the brave men and women who gave so much, and thank you to those who continue to answer the call.
