$5 billion in unclaimed property waiting to be reunited with owners

The Illinois State Treasurer’s Office announced last week the state has more than $5 billion in unclaimed property and wants to reunite it with its owners.

According to a press release from State Treasurer Michael Frerichs’s Office, the cash and property is from the state’s I-Cash program. The program “safeguards unclaimed property including unpaid life insurance benefits, forgotten bank accounts and unused rebate cards,” the release read.
